Lidellplatz

Comfort and flair

The triangular Lidellplatz, also known as the “Lidell Quarter”, invites visitors to take refuge from the bustling city centre.

In the Karlsruhe district of city center east, you can find the triangular Lidellplatz, which is characterised by its down-to-earth flair and cosy charm. The square was built in 1790, under the name Spitalplatz, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. At the time, it was named after the public hospital situated there, but was renamed as “Lidellplatz” in 1893. Today, it is framed by special independent businesses and galleries, as well as cosy cafés and restaurants, which can also be found in the neighbouring commercial complex. The square was renovated in 2006 and the playground was redesigned to ensure that Lidellplatz and the listed fountain it is home to will continue to be a popular meeting place for visitors of all ages.
