Erbprinzenstraße, which runs almost parallel with Kaiserstraße, connects Rondellplatz with the vibrant Europaplatz. Since the Ettlinger Tor shopping centre was opened in 2005, Erbprinzenstraße has been an almost completely pedestrianised street with some bicycle traffic and is characterised by its cosy flair. Original, independent shops, small cafés and enticing bistros line the street. If you’d like to explore the shops in a more comfortable atmosphere, then Erbprinzenstraße is just the place for you. Far removed from the bustling Kaiserstraße, the many shops offering decorative items, quality ladies’ clothing and more invite you to take a browse. A small café is situated opposite, where you can wind down after a successful shopping trip.

Kirchplatz St. Stephan frames the St. Stephan Catholic church and is situated centrally, directly opposite Baden’s State Library and the well-known Friedrichsplatz. The church square is the perfect meeting point for families with children or for a theatre date.

Ludwigsplatz is primarily characterised by its wide selection of bars and restaurants and its “La dolce Vita” atmosphere. This is where the music is played, which you will notice if you pass by on a warm summer evening. Situated right on the cosy Erbprinzenstraße, you can enjoy the last rays of sunshine here after a long day of shopping.

You can experience the special charm of Karlsruhe’s fan-shaped streets particularly well on Waldstraße. You cannot simply walk past countless shops and restaurants lining the street from the Palace up to Sophienstraße without at least taking a look at the new product range.

Lammstraße runs parallel to Ritterstrasse and right past the city’s largest shopping centre, Ettlinger Tor. Named after the former guesthouse “Zum Lamm”, the vibrant street still bears its historical name to this day. A wide range of shops, mainly for the little ones, serve to attract many locals and tourists.

Herrenstraße spans from the southern edge of the Karlsruhe Palace to Karlstor on Karlstraße. You can find an A–Z of shops among cultural heritage sites and court buildings, as well as the Federal Court of Justice. You can find everything from A-line skirts to zebra-print couch cushions at the shops along Herrenstraße, as well as everything a well-organised jewellery box, household or wardrobe could ever need.

Ritterstraße is the longest fan-shaped street in the city and runs from the southern edge of the Palace, to Mathysstraße. It has borne its historical name since 1820 – it was named after the “Zum Ritter” guesthouse, which was popular at the time.
